DISCOVER WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW
If you’ve stayed in place because of preconceived notions of retirement community life, you don’t know what you’re missing.
“Most people do not realize that within two weeks they’re going to have a whole new set of friends and their loneliness is going to disappear.” – Ralph Jordon, resident of The Fountains at Boca Ciega Bay
MEET RALPH JORDON, WHOSE FIVE-DAY TRIAL STAY TURNED INTO THE BEST MOVE FOR HIS LIFE.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Ralph Jordon on Monday, May 7th, 2018. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)
Ralph is a retired math teacher originally from New York. Before moving to The Fountains in June 2017 he experienced the benefits of retirement community living firsthand in North Carolina. A thousand miles away from his first family was too far for Ralph, so he moved to St. Petersburg to live closer to his son. One year later, Ralph is a big part of our welcome committee and is always ready to lend a hand. He helped organize the bridge club and plays four or five days a week. You’ll often find Ralph putting together puzzles and teaching Watermark University classes based on his world travels. Ralph is a great friend to have here at The Fountains.
A SECOND FAMILY BENEFITS EVERYONE
With family members busy with their own lives and so spread out these days, everyone can benefit from establishing ties with a second family. Doing so can help you thrive in safety and security versus trying to go it alone. There’s no better way to connect with others than to move to the right retirement community and finding it is half the fun. Join our next Discovery Luncheon and we’ll give you a flying head start. “If you come in early enough, you can develop your second family here, you can develop a new set of friends, a new set of basically acquaintances that you can interact with and relate to and what we do here, my neighbors have my telephone number, they have my son’s telephone number and I have theirs. If something happens we communicate with each other.” – Ralph Jordon
PUT YOUR FAMILY AT EASE
Has anyone ever told you they worry about you? People don’t say as much lightly. They’re seriously worried. Ralph has a great take on it. “When you were young and raising a family, your son or daughter went out with the family car at night, you sat there and worried about them. They’re doing the same thing about you when you have your car. Don’t be afraid to give it up because you don’t need a car here. I haven’t had a car for seven years. They are sitting at home, really at ease with themselves, because they know their father is in good hands and is being taken care of.” – Ralph Jordon
WORRY-FREE LIVING WITH A VIEW
From errands to prescription deliveries and in-home physician visits, The Fountains helps Ralph live worry free. Without leaving home, he joins neighbors for bridge, popcorn and a movie and even attends church, that is, when he isn’t admiring his view. “If I ever get down, which is rare, I can look out the window and appreciate God’s gift to us, beautiful red sunsets every night, look out over the water, the bay, St. Pete Beach and almost all the way up to Clearwater.” – Ralph Jordon
